Accredited Permaculture Qualifications for careers in sustainability - austudy approved. Full-time courses and Flexible Learning programs in Cert III, Cert IV and Diploma of Permaculture. Accredited courses delivered in partnership with Eltham College, Registered Training Organisation.
Courses are conducted at Djanbung Gardens, a Living Classroom, designed and built by leading Permaculture Educator Robyn Francis in 1994.The 5.5 acre property is packed with diverse applications of permaculture and sustainability in practice to facilitate hands-on learning in a wide range of systems and climatic contexts. Course content includes training to complete the full Curriculum of Certificate III, Certificate IV and Diploma of Permaculture. Accredited Permaculture Training has been conducted at Djanbung Gardens for 4 years.
Each year has seen further development of course resources and adjustments to the program to better meet the diverse needs and aspirations of students and people wishing to access aspects of the training program. 2008 introduced new changes and options for people interested in both full-time studies and participation in specific training modules, short courses and workshops.
The 2008 class completed a Part-time PDC as part of their CertIII and Cert IV training in Term I (prior to Easter).Certificate IV students covered Advanced Design Skills and Client Communications on Thursdays. This was then followed up with excursions to Rural and Urban Sites to prepare for major Design Projects.
A series of short course modules were provided after Easter eg :"Plant ID & Basic Botany" , "Integrated Organic Management of Pests and Diseases", "Bushfoods and Natives in Permaculture", "Appropriate Technology Systems". "Organic Small Crop Production", "Seed-saving and Community Seed Banking" plus sessions on Bioregional and Community Development. These Units helped complete the Core Units of Certificate IV. We also provided time for IT support for those who needed it in order for the Students to prepare presentations for our very successful mid-year open day. This enabled students practice and experience for providing information on Permaculture.
Semester II sees the very exciting Sustainable Community Development and Faciliation Course for people intending to work within culturally diverse communities within Australia and Overseas.This covers Units in Certificate IV.
Following this in early September is the Sustainable Settlement and Ecovillage Course which provdes the foundation training for the Diploma of Permaculture.
In 2008 we had our first opportunity to participate in the Sustainability Expo at the North Coast National. This provided many opportunities to network within our local community, provide information on Permaculture and a living demonstration garden and bamboo structure display.
