PDC students build keyhole garden

by Russ Grayson last modified 31-07-2007 18:07

Students of a Permaculture Design Course make a keyhole kitchen garden for herbs and vegetables. Newspaper to ten pages thick, overlapped by a third their size, was first laid on the grass as a weed barrier. The recycled brick edging was laid after a circle was marked by rotating a knotted string around the centre pole visible in the middle of the keyhole. Organic fertiliser, compost and mulch were then laid in the growing area. The garden was then planted to seedlings and seeds. Bark chip was laid over the paper as a path. Location: The old Randwick Community Centre. Occasion: Pacific-Edge Urban Permaculture Design Course.
