Energy, water efficient building - Macarthur Centre for Sustanable Living

by Russ Grayson last modified 31-07-2007 18:07

The building is a passive solar, energy and water efficient structure. Walls are of a brick formed of a mix of cement and sawdust. The roof is a layer of insulating, polystyrene foam sandwiched between panels of roofing iron. Photovoltaic panels supply energy to the grid, making the building carbon-positive. The building collects rainwater and stores it in tanks and houses offices, kitchen and training rooms. Location: Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living, Mt Annan (near Campbelltown, south west of the Sydney metropolitan area). The centre is a community sustainability education facility, has a community food garden and offers a program of schools education in sustainability topics.
